Hyperhidrosis - causes and treatment

How can you tell if hyperhidrosis is your problem?

There are no standards for how much you should sweat. What we do know is that living in a moderate climate means that the average person loses no more than 1 liter of water through sweat. Changes in thermal regulation are influenced by weather conditions. In summer, sweat production is higher because the body cools itself down, while in winter sweat production is lower due to the low ambient temperature. Physical activity is another factor predisposing to increased sweating, due to a significant increase in blood pressure. Hyperhidrosis is when the patient almost always has moist areas such as the armpits, hands or scalp. The vast majority of people correctly diagnose hyperhidrosis; to be sure, your doctor can perform a simple Minor’s test to confirm the diagnosis.

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is the result of excessive activity of sweat glands located on the human skin. Most often the problem concerns armpits, hands, feet, face or scalp. Excessive sweating is embarrassing and can reduce the comfort of life of patients affected by this ailment significantly.

Treatment:

Currently, there are many recognized methods of treating hyperhidrosis, but botulinum toxin treatment is, without any doubt, one of the most effective and simplest solutions.

Effect of the treatment:

The aim of treatment of hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin is to block the nerve fibers affecting the sweat glands, resulting in complete inhibition of sweat secretion. Excessive sweating is stopped already a few days after the first treatment. The effect lasts up to 6 months, after this time the activity of sweat glands gradually returns. This is also why it is worth repeating the treatment after this time.
